Abby Normal is a powerful new musical about epilepsy, resilience, identity, and the fight to be seen.

When Abby is diagnosed with intractable epilepsy as a child, her world changes overnight. As she grows from age 9 to 18, she must navigate seizures, stigma, friendship, first love, family struggles, and the invisible battle of living with a brain disorder few people talk about. At the center of it all is “Seizure,” a charismatic and terrifying Master of Ceremonies who believes this is his story.

Inspired by playwright Sandra Cruze’s real-life experience with her granddaughter’s epilepsy journey, Abby Normal shines a light on one of the least understood and most stigmatized neurological disorders. The musical aims to foster compassion, raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind audiences that those living with epilepsy deserve to be fully seen.
